Chapter 1, p. 11 Date for Peace of Augsburg should be 1555 (not 1598)
Chapter 1, p. 22. The correct dates for Marsilio Ficino are 1433-1499, thus he lived in the fifteenth century, although his ideas were particularly influential in the sixteenth.
Chapter 9, p. 153. The correct date for the publication of Le nuove musiche is 1602 (not 1614).
Chapter 9, p. 161. The correct date for this version of the Gentileschi painting (Figure 9.2) is c.1612-13 (a later version dates from the period 1614-20).
Chapter 14, p. 236. The caption should read: Apotheosis of Handel, engraved by James Heath after a drawing by Biagio Rebecca (1787).
Chapter 15, p. 259. While more recent tradition associates the accompanying texts with Advent, Bach’s Cantata 140 was first performed November 25th, 1731, when Advent had not yet begun due to an early Easter – one of the relatively infrequent years when there are twenty-seven Sundays after Trinity.
